巴西戰舞
Capoeira – a dangerous dance
A circle of people playing drums and singing, and in the middle of the circle there are people dancing softly but swiftly. The first impression of the Brazilian capoeira is that it must be a ritual of some sort. And in fact that is not far from the truth. But behind those soft movements, which look like peaceful ritual dancing, lies a lethal form of martial art.

CAPOEIRA has a dark history including slavery, oppression and war. It was first born in the Brazilian sugar cane plantations in the early 16th century, when slaves shipped from West Africa started to practise fighting and self defence.

In order to hide their plan from the plantation owners, the slaves created an unusual way of practising: they hid all the movements of self defence, like kicks and leg sweeps, within traditional West African dances and rituals. This way no outsider (guards and owners) could have ever known that in fact they were preparing to fight for their freedom.

肚皮舞
Belly dance is a Western term for a traditional Middle Eastern dance form. Some American devotees refer to it simply as "Middle Eastern Dance".

Where belly dancing is a native dance, boys and girls learn it from an early age. As with many social dances, children learn it informally, by observing and imitating their elders ring family and community celebrations, as well as ring informal gatherings with friends.[citation needed] Today, these ancient dances are taught in classes offered throughout the world, and skilled dancers are able to share their knowledge that has been passed down from the indigenous peoples who created them.

Belly dancing has recently been made widely popular by Latin superstar Shakira, whose dancing combines belly dance, Latino, and modern dance styles.
